We are absolutely delighted with our new Indian sandstone driveway and back garden patio. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Many thanks to all the team for a great job at a very competitive price.
I hired All Pave for sandstone fitting and landscaping to revamp my backyard, and I could not be happier with the results. They transformed my outdoor space into a stunning oasis.
They did my rear garden on two levels with sleepers, Indian stone and artificial grass. What a great team. The job they did is top quality and I would definitely recommend them.
Indian stone is natural stone quarried in India and cut into paving slabs. The most common type is Indian sandstone, which comes in a wide range of colours from warm buffs and browns to cool greys and mixed tones. Limestone and granite are also available. Each slab is slightly different, which gives a patio, path or drive a natural look that concrete products cannot fully copy.
All Pave lays Indian stone patios, paths, steps and driveways from our base in Bamber Bridge, across Lancashire and in Southport and Formby.
Natural stone should be laid on a full mortar bed, not on a few dabs of mortar at the corners. Dab laid slabs have hollows underneath, which lets them rock, crack and trap water. A full bed supports the whole slab.
A good installation starts with digging out to firm ground and building a compacted crushed stone sub base. Each slab is then laid on a full bed of mortar, with a slurry primer brushed onto the back of the stone to help it bond. The patio is set to a gentle fall so water runs away from the house, and kept at least 150mm below the damp proof course.
Once the bed has set, the joints are filled with mortar or a suitable jointing compound. Finally the surface is cleaned to remove any residue.
Natural stone can make a striking driveway, but it needs a stronger build than a patio. Driveway areas use thicker slabs laid on a concrete base, and smaller slab sizes spread the load better under car tyres. We will advise at the survey whether a stone drive suits your property and how it should be built.
Stone laid on a mortar bed does not let water through, so falls, channels and outlets need planning from the start. For a front garden in England, more than five square metres of this kind of surface needs planning permission unless the water drains to a permeable area within the property. On patios, the main aim is simply to keep water away from the house and stop it pooling on the stone.
We start with a free site survey, check the levels and drainage, and talk through stone types, finishes and patterns. The written quote names the stone and slab thickness and sets out the sub base, bedding, jointing and falls. For early guidance, send a few photos and your postcode. We are based in Bamber Bridge and work across Lancashire, including Southport and Formby.
The finish you see sits on work you do not. These are the parts of a Indian stone patio or driveway job that decide how well it drains, how it wears and how long it lasts.

Most problems with Indian stone patios and driveways come back to three things. The base underneath, the way water moves off it, and how well the edges are finished.

Smaller fencing and repair-led jobs can move quickly. Larger driveway, paving, patio, or multi-area exterior projects take longer once preparation, access, and finish detail are factored in properly.
Smaller jobs can often be handled simply, while larger projects are better split into sensible stages so the scope, progress, and payment structure stay clear.
